A .tel directory the most important task for Telnic

Post by Clever on Sat Aug 17, 2013 3:11 am

Due to the limited content at Telnames and the limitations for search and text insertion at Telnic (and the resulting SEO restrictions), a designated .tel directory will bring the needed searchability for .tel domains.

Mark Kolb has developed a nice beta site for it: http://www.telview.co/nearmenow.php

It's my opinion that Telnames does not need its own old style website directory as tel is a new way of sharing data, which means directories that all ready exist and have massive brand recognition should be importing tel data if they wish to continue to exist in the forth coming years at that annoying Facebook CEO goes after the mobile market of millions of disconnected people by giving them cheap phones to suck up advert money and data.

Telnames is working towards and has started to do syndication so this is only the beginning but the right step forward for what tel is about.

So why would they waste time making an old style directory that wont be used? and when they don't have the funds to publicize it? do you even know what tel is about? why tel exists? and what tels original goal was? have you been around from the beginning? or are you a late bloomer who is stuck with the old website 1.0 premise?

So why do what you suggest when they have and can spend less time and small amounts of phone call cash on partnering with 3rd parties to ensure data is syndicated to such directories that people do actually use?

It's all about whats effective vs not when you run a business and wasting time on an old style directory system that they've all ready made in a 2.0 form via telnic tels would be a complete joke.

Directories are still used but outdated in their large website forms which is why we have apps, telnic provides the basis for a directory 2.0 that does need some work but is doable with the api so that you don't need an app! but an app is optional and can enhance the browsing of a tel directory/page system.

Theres plenty of methods to compress large data sets into small spaces, sure it's granted you'll need a partner site to output datasets like a .mobi, but it's doable and can be done so that a basic protel telnic directory lists the keywords "type of business" people are likely to be looking for at telnames, then feed them through to lower options to narrow the search down, then link them out via a weblink to your .mobi that before returning a data set grabs their GEO location then prints out the data. OR you can just list and copy telnames profiles into their own listings on a protel if your keyword directory is specific and has few results.

Really the point is that telnames employees have made a directory system via telnic that gives you the freedom to list/linkto telnames businesses so that people looking for keywords etc will find your directory and then find a telname page. Which also allows older style sites to import your telnic protel structure like google scans sitemaps.

So from my point of view It's pretty sad that we've not got past this yet, you're entitled to your opinion but I don't agree with it at all and that's why I will continue to reply to any thread suggesting telnames go back to the year 2000 type directories based on this notion that telnames can't be found.

It's not about SEO it's about SEO! "Syndicated Engine Optimization" and as telnames is about SMALL BUSINESS it's about them sharing their tel one on one, not mass marketing via Google but if you want to mass market via Google you'll have to put you TEL in a Google advert that targets the people you're looking for on your behalf then drops them onto your telname.

There are many ways of doing things, but telnames employees all ready invested their life in changing the directory game so calling for a standard directory is a slap in the face and just wont get listened too by them.

That's an important point.
Two possibilities have been discussed how to gain recognition for .tel: improving search rankings or a directory specialized in .tel.

Meanwhile I believe .tel has to leave the traditional ways and build a new network not comparable with old systems.
.tel won't become the new norm by beating old methods built on a different infrastructure. Instead .tel offers the possibility for data exchange of contact data in a much more effective way we've never seen before.

Search engines already do the job in indexing .tel content. What will be needed is a brokerage service that allows subscribers like Yell to obtain the latest information about tel owners. Although DNS data is directly available, it still needs to be vetted and in the cases of a .tel not being renewed, the brokerage service will push that to subscribers.
